• Harry Richie disclosed that he is disappointed after receiving KSh 3,228 a royalties for his hit song Vaida
• The Star, famed for his Alkaida style said he is thinking of ditching music for something else
• Vaida was one of the biggest songs of 2022 which enjoyed massive airplay and many people expected he will receive a substantial amount of royalties from MCSK
For the longest time now, countless Kenyan creatives have been pushing Music Copyright Society Of Kenya(MCSK) to at least pay artiste decent amounts of money in form of royalties.
While some have been okay with whatever they get from the music regulation body, many have always cried faul with Vaida hitmaker Harry Richie being the latest complainant.
Harry Richie is actually contemplating quiting music for a different career after receiving peanuts from MCSK for his hit song Vaida.
Taking to his Facebook page, the star famed for the Alkaida type of music expressed his disappointment in MCSK for sending him a mere KSh 3,228 for Vaida, a song that was a national anthem at some point.
Through his post, Harry Richie shared a screenshot of an MPESA message showing the amount he had received from MCSK for his song Vaida, followed by a message to local journalists.
The star wanted journalists who have all along believed artistes receive millions from MCSK to know that they have been suffering contrary to the belief of many.
Harry Richie could not wrap up his rant without disclosing that he is thinking of changing professions due to disappointment from MCSK.
“For those who writes about us artists, how we live lavish lifestyle. #Vaida is all over but this is what we get payed twice a year. As a matter of fact the last time i received such a message was in 2020, anyway hope pesa ya Marehemu ILAGOSA WA ILAGOSA mumetumia his father. Iam going back to my work of profession.” Harry Richie wrote.
His sentiments were echoed by countless local artistes who camped on the comments section of his post to encourage him.
It should be noted Harry Richie is not the first Kenyan musician to complain about the little royalties.
Neither is it the first time the same issue is being raise by artistes and even music lovers ans stakeholders.
Harry Richie’s song Vaida was one of the biggest songs of 2022 which enjoyed massive airtime on radio, TV and different venues.
It was therefore everyone’s hope that he would receive a hefty amount from MCSK as royalties for the song.
However, the same seem to have been just that, a dream, which is yet and will never come true soon.
