The Canon Kituri family is filled with gratitude as they gather on this momentous day, the official reopening of the newly renovated boys’ dormitory. The journey to this day has been marked by challenges and triumphs, but through it all, they have found reasons to thank God. This blog post recounts the remarkable story of the dormitory’s revival and the sense of community that made it possible.
On the fateful day of May 24th, 2023, tragedy struck Canon Kituri as a devastating fire razed down the boys’ dormitory block. It was a heart-wrenching incident that left the entire community in shock. However, amidst the ashes, hope began to rise, fueling their determination to rebuild and restore what was lost.
The Thanksgiving Service and Dedication:
Yesterday, the Canon Kituri community gathered for a joyous thanksgiving service, dedication, and official reopening of the newly renovated dormitory. The occasion was graced by the presence of the esteemed Rt Rev Liverson Mng’onda, Bishop of the ACK Taita Taveta, who served as the chief guest. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of resilience and gratitude as the community came together to celebrate this remarkable achievement.
In an impressive display of commitment, the dormitory renovation project was completed in a record time of just four weeks, as promised. The expedited timeline was made possible through the unwavering efforts of a dedicated team. Moreover, the project received valuable support from the Wundanyi NG-CDF, which fully funded the endeavor. Alongside the renovation, a roof rain harvesting structure was also installed, featuring a 10,000-liter water tank. This sustainable addition ensures a reliable water supply for the dormitory, emphasizing the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
A Celebration of Education:
While the focus of the day was the dormitory reopening, Canon Kituri had another reason to celebrate. The event coincided with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Prize Giving Day at Sacred Heart Mwakiwiwi. It was a day of recognition and acknowledgement for the hard work and achievements of the students, teachers, and staff members. The community’s joy was multiplied as they witnessed the fruits of their collective dedication to education.
The reopening of the renovated dormitory at Canon Kituri is a testament to the strength, resilience, and unity of the community. From the ashes of trage-dy, they have emerged stronger and more determined than ever. The support of the Wundanyi NG-CDF and the presence of Rt Rev Liverson Mng’onda during the thanksgiving service added to the significance of this milestone. Today, Canon Kituri stands as a beacon of hope, a shining example of what can be accomplished when a community comes together.
