Zetech University on Thursday, July 20, hosted the first of its kind Sports Awards Luncheon at their Thika Road-based main campus.

The invitees-only affair made national and regional headlines thanks as different notable sports and public figures took their time to laud the institution for its continued support in sporting different talents through their Sports Scholarship Programme.

Former Harambee Stars Coach and Women’s premier league side, Gaspo FC coach Jacob Ghost Mulee was among the guest at the awards gala who could not congratulate Zetech University enough for tier effort in promoting sports in Kenya.

Others who were present during the star-studded event were Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) Chair James Situma, former Kenya Sevens star and KCB RFC head coach Andrew Amonde, Kenya Morans Head coach Hanset Wafula and National Team player Clifton Miheso who gave out positive remarks about the whole initiative.

YEIYO.com understands Zetech University has been keen on scouting, nurturing and promoting local sports talents by offering them scholarships at the institution, famed for its progressiveness not only in education but also sports.

The sports scholarship and the sports award courtesy of Zetech University was highly appreciated by notable sports personalities such as Ghost Mulee who thanked the institution for supporting local talents through their programmes as he urged them to keep on doing the same.

Speaking during the awards gala organised to celebrate the achievements of the University’s teams over the past season and held at the school, the former Harambee Stars Coach congratulated the Zetech University management for the unwavering support in sporting local talent through their Sports Scholarship Programme.

“Sports is currently the highest paying job in the world. It is a privilege to get a sports scholarship in a university such as Zetech because it is a God-given talent.” Ghost Mulee said.

The colourful event also saw the Zetech Sparks Basketball team, who are the runners-up in the concluded Kenya basketball federation women’s premier league and who will represent the country in Kigali, Rwanda at the Africa Basketball Championship feted for their achievement.

Adding his voice to the ongoing initiative, KCB RFC head coach Andrew Amonde noted that although sometimes most sportsmen offer more to the sport than it offers back, young people now have a chance to break through in the much-competitive industry with proper mentorship, guidance and facilities provided by Zetech University.

Andrew Amonde also used the opportunity to praise the recently promoted Zetech Oaks Rugby team that emerged winners in the Driftwood sevens Division Two pooling.

On his part, Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) chair James Situma insisted the importance of discipline in the success of any player.

“Winning in any sport is a process that takes time and is not instant” Amonde stated.

Situma added that stardom only lasts for a short time and players need a solid educational grounding to prosper.
