Investigative journalist Dennis Okari has for the first time opened up about the aftermath of his divorce with fellow scribe Betty Kyallo and the toll it took on him.
Dennis Okari has disclosed that the bitter divorce dealt him a big blow and almost rendered him dead.
Speaking at Reverend Kathy Kiuna’s recent Daughters of Zion event, the polished member of the fourth estate narrated how the split made him suicidal and how he finally managed to beat the dark thoughts.
According to Dennis Okari, he was so hurt that he at one point thought of crashing his car along the ever busy Mombasa Road so that he can slide into a coma or die, so that he can escape the sad reality then.
Okari disclosed that he had picked a day and the spot but could not found the boulder on the material day, hence forfeiting his suicide mission.
“At one time I was driving on Mombasa Road and I thought of crashing my car so that I slide into a comma, and by the time I wake up all this shall have passed. I looked for a boulder that used to be on the road but that night I could not see it.” Dennis Okari revealed.
The former TV news anchor stated that he felt bad because he never imagined himself getting married only to divorce a couple of years later.
“You don’t get married to divorce,” Dennis Okari said.
The journalist said that the divorce left him with shame, being the firstborn in his family.
Okari noted he found it difficult to explain his divorce to siblings, since most of them looked up to him for guidance.
The father of two wrapped up by saying he was forced to fight several battles, both in public and in private but thanks God for giving him strength to beat all that.
Prior to his divorce with Betty Kyallo, rumour mills had gone into overdrive with reports the latter was cheating on the former with a flamboyant Kenyan governor.
It is not yet clear if the infidelity was the main recipe for their divorce or other issues, but the same left many jaws on the floor as the two were among Kenya’s top power and celebrity couples.
