The Kenyan government has recently been working overtime to ensure it gives its citizens the chance to access various services, effortlessly and on the go.
With the same breath, the government made a few changes on the popular eCitizen platform to ensure Kenyans get the best there is as far as government services are confirmed.

The revamped version comes as a major update to the government platform.
The newly-updated version of eCitizen platform which is yet to go live will feature a lot of fresh and new services from both the national and county governments.
To ensure safety for first time users, one will be required to update his or her password.
A combination of a capital letter and numeric combination will be required to ensure maximum personal data security.
This feature is crucial since administrators at eCitizen noticed many users used their ID numbers as their login passwords.
The new login design and interface comes with the option to remember the login for 30 days.
For users’ account security, eCitizen will now feature OTP (One Time Pin) which will be sent directly to the registered users phone number.
Under account management, eCitizen will now feature Biometrics and Electronic Signatures, the first of it’s kind in the country.
Under ‘My Profile’ section, identity documents such as ID and Driving license will be attached to the eCitizen user profile.
Family and children, government registered spouse and registered children will also be linked to the user profiles, making it easy for Kenyans to manage their accounts.

The applications are made online by filling online forms.
Results are delivered in PDF format.
Notifications on the applications are sent via email and SMS.
eCitizen has a variety of payment options which includes mobile money, debit card and eCitizen agents.
One can get services in and around business, marriages, driving, lands immigration and civil registration services offered by their respective government departments.
For example, through the Office of The Attorney General and Department of Justice one can get services such as getting married or entering a civil partnerships in Kenya.
Business name search and registration services are also available on the platform.
This is possible thanks to eBusiness which is a portal of eCitizen which enables individuals owning business to access Government to Business service online.
The services include application of business licenses, permits and business registration.
The best bit is that one can apply for a provisional driving license ,book in driving test, get a driving license, pay fees and track the application through the NTSA(National Transport and Safety Authority ) on eCitizen.
The Department of Immigration Services also offers services such as application of passports and application of a work permit.
On the eVisa segment, which is yet another portal of eCitizen, one can easily apply for a visa.
The Ministry of Land Housing and Urban Development also has services such as searching for a title deeds, land rent clearance demand notice and payments all through eCitizen.
In summary, eCitizen is a platform designed to cater majorly for the citizen.
It helps improves the speed in which the government serves its citizens thus making service rendering convenient.
